Night Fishing

Ever considered catching your own dinner?

This is exactly what happens on a Night fishing trip. The Maldives is unique in that its history depends on tuna fishing, and the local Maldivians are excellent fishermen, using pole and sinker.

Stingray Beach Inn guests are taken in a dhoni (local boat) each with the tools required to catch their own fish. Guests that are lucky enough (and most do) to catch something appropriate can have their catch prepared for dinner by the chef at the hotel. Dinner can be either a BBQ on the beach or dinner served at Stingray Beach Inn restaurant.

Guest will leave Maafushi Island at sunset, the dhoni will take you to the outer edges of the atolls, and lines will be cast in traditional Maldivian hook, line & sinker.

Fishermen in the Maldives do their fishing with pole and sinker, and when the dhoni anchors, night fishermen drop their line and sinker over the side and just sit and relax. What a wonderful way to pass the evening!

Fish caught on the Maldives atolls during night fishing will include emperors, snappers, squirrelfish, jacks and other reef fishes. Or maybe you would just love to lay back on the deck of the dhoni, and watch the stars above. Without a single light on the ground, the stars above come alive in abundance. For a moment, it is as though you are floating among the stars.
